Buying mis-identified vintage clothing ~ The pitfalls ~ a Unicorn or a Mule!
She always wanted to have a Unicorn, but oh my, the price to own one! She looked all over the internet for her special dream… a beautiful, coloured Unicorn with a golden horn… For the longest time she searched and then she started to see many places that were selling Unicorns… the price was getting to be within her means… maybe she could afford her dreams…
Finally, after seeing many sellers selling Unicorns ( even tho’ she really was wondering about their pictures of the Unicorn) she saw that others had purchased the same item and were enthralled with their Unicorn… She scrimped and saved and finally was able to purchase her dream…
After it arrived, she showed all her friends, and posted on many internet forums that she belonged to… “Ohhhh, awwwww, how wonderful!”, her friends commented… “Oh what a nice Unicorn you have” said many on the forums… The few people that told her she didn’t have a Unicorn, but a Mule with a cone taped to his forehead, were belittled and told they didn’t know what they were talking about…
“Why look at all the Unicorns that are for sale from such trendy sellers! and look at the prices they bring!” everyone said… “you must be mistaken, it is a Unicorn!”
Now, the people who have a real Unicorn to sell are having trouble selling it as a real Unicorn, being told, by anonymous email, they are selling fakes! The un-informed masses have been trained to believe that a mule with a cone taped to his forehead is a Unicorn…
~ a Bed Jacket is a Bed Jacket, not a bolero
~ a slip is a slip, not a dress
~ a sundress doesn’t have sleeves
~ high waisted slacks/jeans do not end up at your waist
~ just because it has a metal zipper, doesn’t mean it’s Vintage ~ etc, etc, etc.
Call it what it is, then explain that it can be worn many different ways, with many different articles of clothing…
A mule with a cone taped to his forehead, is not a Unicorn…
